Some games have choices to be made by the player where the choices made give rise to different consequences. While making these choices the player will have a vague idea of how his/her choices impact the game. Based on these choices the player might make a decision with careful consideration.

But this is not the case in some games, the player is given choices which feels to be not important for the story but it infact has a huge impact on the game.

Examples[]

Witcher 3[]

In Witcher 3, some of the choices made by the player in dialogue options changed the climax of the game in a drastic way. Initially I was not aware of this when i made the choice but the choices I made changed the trajectory of the story so much that I regretted making that particular decision. In Witcher 3 when the character's daughter is sad, the game expects me to cheer her up by taking her out and playing snow fight with her but I thought it wasnt important and made the player's daughter to go to bed. This had a huge impact in the end because the relationship between the father and daughter is skewed because of this and hence it lead to a bad climax in the end.

Life is Strange[]

Life is strange 2

Many of the choices the player is faced with in Life is Strange can be quite vague in regards to the desired outcome. This may be intentional by the game designers, but it also creates a sense of negative stress on the player when they do not realize the impact some choices will have. Small dialogue options sometimes held strong consequences in which the player experienced much later in the game narrative. This becomes an issue at times because the player is pulled out of the immersive world and regrets the decisions they made, especially if the decision created an outcome they did not see the character actually making. The player may give personality traits to the in-game character they play, and if the choices reflect dialogue the player did not intend, then it may stray from the player's desired character development.
