Long exposition in beginning of game can make people bored

Many times story heavy games want to tell us everything there is about the game universe before the game has started. This is usually done to give the player and character a motivation. Sometimes this expository sequence can go on too long, and make the player disinterested. Not only does this reduce the engagement, but the player does not get the backstory that the creator wants to tell.

Examples

Aura: Fate of the Ages

In the start of the game, the player has to watch a long cutscene play while a narrarator gives the exposition. This is it boring to watch, and it tells the story so fast with rapidly shifting images that it gets hard to follow. Not long into the sequence I found myself not caring at all what was happening on the screen and I just wanted it to end.
