When a new update or sequel allows me to import my player from a previous game along with all its customized looks and abilities, it adds to the experience of the game. I become much more attached to my player because of my history with the avatar. My scars and trials are seen on the person's body and in their personality as well. In addition, with skills from previous experiences still connected to the avatar, I have a slight advantage in gameplay. Along with skills, relationship histories and interactions are saved as well. This allows me to continue to curate and build upon existing relationships with NPCs from previous games. Moreover, it helps to build upon the previous story and makes me feel more respected as a fan of the series since my progress and work is not lost.

I have seen many similar instances in other games like Metal Gear and Witcher series. However, I found it more prevalent in Mass Effect series and Witcher3 where the whole range

of dialogues, the story and quests got affected by the previous version’s gameplay. In Mass Effect franchise your game choices, character choice and power-ups from Mass Effect 2 can be downloaded and used in Mass effect 3 which made it more immersing.
