Many side scrolling platforms have an auto scrolling camera that moves typically to the right. This camera can sometimes be an interesting mechanic unless the player needs to move faster than the camera. This slow camera will lead to players having to take leaps of faith and failing the level. Ultimately a player will have to memorize the whole level in order to figure out where the next platform will be that the camera hasn't shown yet.

Examples[]

Mario[]

In many Mario games the player is tasked with the challenge of staying inside a camera space while moving to the right. This can be fun until the player needs to move fast but the camera is still moving slow. The player will have to guess where the next platform is along with guessing where threats will be.

RollerCoaster Tycoon[]

The amusement park sim uses mouse scrolling to pan the camera around the park. The user must place the mouse on the edge of the screen to do this. Personally, this scroll speed was too slow for my taste. Leading to a clunky interface experience when managing very large parks.
