Many games within the "walking simulator" genre have narration over the gameplay. Games like The Stanely Parable and The Beginner's Guide. This narration often subtly gives the player a threadline of a narrative or storyline to follow. However, the main game design aspect that these narrations have is that they often guide the player along the path that is otherwise extremely open and unstructured.

For example, in a game called Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist, when the player falters, walks the wrong way, tries to open locked doors, or generally gets stuck not knowing what to do, the narrator will openly acknowledge that and try to guide the player towards the correct direction without being too forceful.
