The Snack[]

Sometimes you as the game designer make a big mistake.  Or a lot of big mistakes.  It's important to be able to own that and make things right for the fans of your game.  With the existence of patches and downloadable content it has never been easier to alter your game to give the player a more worthwhile experiance.  In some ways, this is simply being able to listen to player feedback and respond objectively.

I think the best way to demonstrate this by example.  I can think of a number of times in recent history where a major game maker had to edit their game after the fact to make things right with their players.  The best example I know of is the reboot of Final Fantasy XIV: A Relm Reborn.  The initial launch of the game was a complete disaster.  Square Enix completely overhauled the entire game and relaunched.  They were rewarded.  Players who had tried the game were willing to give it another chance.  Things went so well that the developers created an aniversery event where they thank the players for believing in them and the game.  They created a special room with themselves as NPC that players get to go into once a year.
